How do I set the Docker daemon options?

Article ID: KB000333

All the Docker daemon options are documented at in the Docker docs.

The exact process to set these options varies by the way you launch the Docker daemon and/or the underlying OS:

  • systemd (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL 7, CentOS 7, Fedora, Archlinux) — systemctl edit docker.service, change the ExecStart line

  • Ubuntu 12.04 — set DOCKER_OPTS in /etc/default/docker

  • OS/X — select Preferences -> Daemon -> Advanced

Once you have set the options for the daemon, be certain to save the file or apply the changes, then restart the Docker daemon. Linux users can confirm changes by executing a command similar to ps faux | grep docker, then looking for the daemon, and confirming the new options are included in the command line.
