Windows encoding for the daemon.json

Article ID: KB001009

Issue

When I create the daemon.json file in Windows using notepad - what encoding do I save it with?

Instructions

Windows defaults to the ANSI format - if you save the daemon in UTF-8 format, the Docker engine will fail to start, with a syntax error coming from the daemon.json file. When you open the file in notepad - there is a dropdown at the bottom right corner for encoding. Make sure ANSI is selected and that Windows doesn't append the .txt extension to the end of the daemon.json file
